Chapter 8 · Rally outside the app / 8.7
iPhone settings, and what stays on the Mac
Set up appearance, notifications and your digest on iPhone, and know which jobs still need the Mac.
The iPhone app has a small Settings screen of its own. To open it, go to the Channels tab and tap the round avatar at the top left (VoiceOver calls it Organization and settings). Tap Done to close it.
What is in iPhone Settings
Appearance
Choose System, Light or Dark. System follows your iPhone. Dark on the phone is true black, which looks good on the iPhone's screen at night.
This choice is saved on the phone only. Your Mac keeps its own (see Light, dark and your own colour).
Notifications
Notify me on this iPhone about mentions and additions turns alerts on or off for this phone. Notifications explains what you get and when.
Account
Your Name, Email, Organization, Region and Default timezone, for reference. This screen shows them but does not change them.
Digest
Send me a digest turns your digest on or off for this Organization. Below it, Days and Times show your schedule, but you cannot edit them here. If you turn the digest on when no schedule has been set, it starts at weekdays, 9:00 AM.
From the phone, email is the only destination you can save. As the screen puts it, "Other delivery connectors stay on the Mac." To get your digest in Slack, or to change days and times, use Settings → Digest on the Mac.
Organization members
A list of the people in your Organization. It is for looking only; inviting and changing roles happen on the Mac (see Running an Organization).
Connections and This Mac only
These two sections are signposts rather than settings. They remind you that connecting tools and a handful of Mac features live on the Mac. Tools your Organization has already connected still work when you chat from the phone.
Privacy, leaving and signing out
At the bottom are links to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, Leave this organization, an Account deletion section and Sign out. Leaving asks you to confirm first. What leaving does is in Leaving, removing and closing.
Delete account on this device is not a full erasure: it leaves the current Organization, signs you out and removes the sign-in from the phone. To have your identity and Organization data erased, use Request data deletion in the same section. What Rally keeps, and deleting your data has the details.
Reading comfortably
The app follows your iPhone's own accessibility settings:
- Text follows the size you set in iOS (Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size, or the larger sizes under Accessibility).
- It respects Reduce Motion.
- VoiceOver reads out the send and stop buttons and the messages.
What stays on the Mac
The iPhone app is for following and joining in. These all need the Mac app:
| Job | On the Mac, see |
|---|---|
| Starting a new Channel | Your first Channel |
| Spaces: creating them, dashboards, pins, managing access | Spaces |
| Creating or editing Sidekicks | Make a Sidekick |
| Connecting tools, GitHub repository access, custom MCP servers, inbound webhooks | Settings → Connections |
| Where Rally's code may reach on the internet | Organization settings |
| Mentioning people with @, slash commands, reordering queued messages | The message box |
| Opening and previewing files and artifacts, saving replies as images or PDFs, exporting diagrams | Things Rally makes |
| Searching the whole Organization | Search and links |
| Editing digest days, times and destinations | The digest |
| Menu bar, Dock icon, opening at login, Lockdown mode | Rally on your Mac |
If you reach for something on the phone and it is not there, it is almost certainly on this list, waiting patiently on your desk.
The last stop in this chapter is for people without either app: Rally in a web browser.
