Chapter 5 · Connecting your tools / 5.6
Notion
Let Rally find, read and write your Notion pages and databases.
If your team's knowledge lives in Notion, connecting it means Rally can look things up there instead of asking you where the onboarding doc is. Again.
What Rally can do
With Notion connected, Rally can:
- search pages and databases
- read a page
- read a database's columns and rows
- create pages
- edit pages, either by changing particular bits of text or by adding to the end
- read comments and write new ones
Two ways to connect
Notion offers both kinds of connection, and they work a little differently.
Connect for me signs in to Notion as you and uses the tools Notion itself provides. Rally can reach what your Notion account can reach. Because Notion supplies these tools, the exact list is whatever Notion offers at the time, and it can change without a Rally update.
Connect for organization (owners and administrators) installs the Rally integration into your Notion workspace for everyone. During the install, Notion asks which pages to share with Rally, and only those pages are visible to this connection. The rest of your Notion workspace stays out of reach, even when the connection is healthy. The Organization connection can also tell Rally when shared pages change.
The Organization connection searches by page and database title only, not the text inside the pages. If Rally cannot find a page you know exists, try asking with words from its title.
- Open Settings → Connections and find the Notion card.
- Click Connect for me or Connect for organization.
- Approve Rally in Notion in your browser. For the Organization connection, tick the pages you want Rally to see.
- Come back to Rally. The card says Connected.
When Rally cannot find a page
For the Organization connection, the usual reason is that the page was never shared with the Rally integration. Check the page's sharing in Notion before you reconnect anything.
Then work through the usual checks:
- In Settings → Connections, check the Status of the connection you expected Rally to use.
- Check the page is still shared with the Rally integration in Notion.
- If the status says Reconnect required, click Refresh, or ask an owner or administrator to do so for the Organization connection.
Things to try
- "Find our Notion page on the refund policy and tell me what it says about annual plans."
- "Write up today's meeting notes as a new page under Team Meetings."
- "What columns does the Launch Tracker database have, and which rows are still marked as blocked?"
- "Read the comments on the Q4 roadmap page and summarise the open questions."
Next, Slack.
